Sustainable Tourism and Learning outside the Classroom

Hungarian secondary and primary school (12-18) is searching for KA2 partners. Our school, called Teleki Blanka Grammar and Primary School, lies in the heart of Székesfehérvár, which is a city situated 60 kms from the capital, Budapest. The school presently operates with a
structure that includes elementary school classes, six-, four- and five-form secondary education system.
We are absolutely devoted to educating students who understand and thus practise sustainable approach to nature, their environment and local culture. We are aware of the indispensability of bringing up children who will be responsible European citizens. Therefore we would like to introduce the topics of sustainable tourism and responsible environmental protection in our local curriculum. This work could be carried out within the framework of a cross-curricular project and would need to develop a fully interdisciplinary approach. Three departments are planned to work together: the coordinating work would be done by the English department, the biology-geography and chemistry department could help with their expertise and experience coming from learning outside the classroom: the yearly field work they have been organising for students in Kisgyón (an unspoilt part of Bakony hills with rented chalets), while the sports department may promote physical education with a variety of activities in the open air.
The three curriculum areas aim at introducing a project that offers opportunities for students to enjoy firsthand experience outdoors where they can explore the world around them as well as make as low an impact on environment as possible.
