About the organisation:
UCG is a local authority associating 14 small municipalities of Garfagnana area, part of the Apennines National Park. The area is characterised by its strong rural identity, by its remoteness and by a past of massive emigration. UCG is the unique institution providing public services to citizens of the member municipalities, and it is the public actor of reference for youth policies definition and implementation at local level. UCG coordinates and support financially and technically the initiatives promoted by local actors of the youth sector. UCG successfully applied for two Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the field of Youth and has a good track of other European initiatives in its past.
Timetable of the project: 1st January 2018 - 31st December 2018
Recently, Unione dei Comuni della Garfagnana has successfully ended a project under Erasmus+ program focussed on roots tourism, a branch of tourism aimed at exploiting desire for return of past migrants who left Europe during 20th century in order to flee political turmoil or economic uncertainty. Now, we want to build on previous project results by creating a Network of towns which can exploit potential of this kind of tourism. The project entails one event per participating country, where about 80 persons from economic sectors and public authorities meet in order to discuss aspects of roots tourism and work in groups to define common strategies. A final event in Brussels will present institutions with project results.
Role of the partner organisation in the project:
Project partner will be charged with the task to organize the event in its own country according to coordinator guidelines.
We are looking for municipalities in Spain, Hungary, Ireland and Scotland. Target partner should have experienced a strong migration flow away from Europe to third countries during last century. Total budget 120.000 euros, 19.000 per partner except coordinator which keeps 25.000 for management expenses.
