Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) Programme Partnership

Dear Colleague,

Greetings from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)!

Firstly, we appreciate the ongoing effort of the Erasmus+ Programme cooperation between the European Union and our university. Looking at the benefits of the programme in a long run, we would like to express our keen interest in expanding our Erasmus portfolio across the EU and encourage mobility programmes between the EU and Malaysia. Thus far, we are a member to five (5) Erasmus+ ICM agreements with various universities in Europe. We would really appreciate if we can apply for this grant together for the benefit of the universities in your region and UTM.

For your information, UTM is a leading innovation-driven entrepreneurial research university in engineering science and technology located in both Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia and Johor Bahru, in the south of Peninsular Malaysia. UTM has 19 academic faculties/schools, 5 Research Alliances and 28 Centers of Excellence covering a range of disciplines including engineering, science, ICT, education and management. There are more than 25,000 students studying in UTM, out of which around 12,000 are enrolled in the postgraduate programs and the rest are undergraduates. There are approximately 5,000 PhD students and 3,000 international students pursuing studies in various fields of specialisation. UTM has over 50 academic programmes with more than 2000 courses available for student exchange programme and all of our courses are fully taught in English.

Moreover, UTM is one of the top universities with a large number of international students from 80 nationalities. UTM’s success is attributed to its persistence in inculcating an entrepreneurial, innovative and global mind set culture among staffs and students of the University. In particular, we initiate new learning experience for students from mere talk and chalk to innovative and experiential learning experience, global outreach and future mobility projects.

Furthermore, UTM is currently undergoing a transformation under the Phase II of UTM Global Plan 2012-2020 that aims to strengthen international partnership and student mobility. Phase II of the Global plan will focus on high impact programme such as strategic research collaboration, theme based joint program and Malaysia human capital development in science and technology. Reflecting on UTM Global Plan Phase II, staff and student mobility will be one of the key focus areas to build a stronger relationship and meaningful collaboration with our partner universities and potential collaborators around the world.

Consequently, we realised that the Erasmus+ ICM programme would lead to new opportunities for these staffs to enhance their development skills using knowledge and experiences they gained abroad. For student mobility, UTM shall send more than 1,000 students abroad for various mobility programmes including student exchange.

Lastly, we are confident that the participant will greatly benefit from the learning pedagogy curriculum and culture during the mobility period between our institutions. We hope to forge a better collaboration through the Erasmus+ ICM programme.
