1968 - Prague Spring and the subsequent occupation by the armies of the Eastern bloc countries
About the organisation:
We are a Czech theatre group Tisícihran. Our focus is on creating documentary performances about important historical and social events in the Czech history.
We have so far created two performances for school children. "Violets and soaps" brings a testimony about the political events in the fifties in former Czechoslovakia, perceived through the child's perspective. On stage, we meet three non-actors, who bring forth their childhood destinies, each touched by the communist totality of the fifties.
Our second performance, premiered in autumn 2017, goes even further back in history, to the war era. Two women both over 80 years old now, remember their childhood during the "Protektorat Bohmen und Maren", when Czechia was annexed by the Germans, living not precisley in war, but in a permanent terror of a police state and war poverty.
About the project:
The goal of the project is to create and perform several documentary theatre performances dealing with the political events of 1968 in both Eastern and Western Europe and the general climate of the sixties. The objective is to raise awareness, mostly among school children, of the historical events which are important for the understanding of the current social climate and political situation.
