Fostering intercultural dialogue; combatting stigmatisation of migrants/minority groups

About the organisation:
Situated in the National College of Ireland (NCI), the Early Learning Initiative (ELI) is a non-profit, community-based educational initiative aimed at addressing educational disadvantage in marginalised communities through the provision of an integrated programme for children, their parents and families, and educators from early years up to third level.
ELI is unique in that we aim to break the generational cycle of educational disadvantage so that children in our community will enter the educational system equipped with the literacy, numeracy, social and emotional skills appropriate for their age.

About the project:
This participatory action research project will show that by enabling restorative engagements – in a divided, often radicalised, inner city community – mutually respectful and collaborative relationships are cultivated. This initiative is concerned with the wider societal change strands of restorative practices, rather than focusing solely on criminal justice, and at the centre of this initiative is a vision of a restorative learning neighbourhood.

This initiative is located within several evolving strands of future-oriented, best restorative practices which will enable participants to:
1. Promote restorative processes within various public and civic institutions that value citizen voice and prioritise securing a safe local environment. e.g. schools, youth & community projects.
2. Establish restorative principles in organisational and societal cultures. e.g. public bodies, charities, schools, universites.
3. Embed restorative processes in handling conflict in various institutional settings. e.g. local councils, health agencies.
4. Develop citizen’s understanding of the Union’s policy-making process and hoe restorative methodologies

Role of the partner organisation in the project:
We would be the lead organisation for this project and/or would like to partner with similar organisa-tions to help coordinate the project in each mem-ber states.
