partnership to support women in Science, Technology, Engineering and, Mathematics (STEM) Program-KENYA
Chepngoror Education Foundation (CHEFO), a new nonprofit organization in Kenya, dedicated to enriching the lives of children and youth, mainly girls by creating opportunities for success in primary and post-secondary education.
CHEFO envisions an African continent fully developed in terms of its human and resource capacity, free from poverty; ignorance, and civil conflict and where the poorest and most vulnerable people become “leaders” and effectively manage their national resources.
CHEFO is a member of the Girls Not Brides network (see certificate), whom together, we have developed a strategy of bringing young women and girls together and empower them psychologically, mentally, socially and economically, under our program called Girls Mentorship Programme.
Collaboration in funding the women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Program
We write to seek long term cooperation with your esteemed organisations to support the STEM program in Kenya
Inadequate number of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) roles is a crucial problem for any country that aims at accelerating Science and Technology advancement in order to achieve the sustainable development goals. Females make up more than 50% of the population of most African countries and have a great opportunity to play a vital role in the development of products and services. To do more, we need more hands! The fact that women make up a greater percentage of population means women can help make the world a better place. This is a major reason why we need women to be involved in the STEM.
Whats more! Business in Africa and beyond require the use of technology to scale their operations. Tech firms also want to improve upon gender diversity and inclusion.
We aim at creating a relevant community of top female talent who will lead in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields. Ladies who are interested in learning technology are enrolled in our boot camps where we teach web and mobile apps development, data science (big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence) and digital marketing.
Ladies learn using a tailored and personalized curriculum that will make these courses very practical and interactive. Each lady will also be in contact with at least one mentor who would guide and support her with further education and career choices. After enrolling in our training, ladies will be matched with real-time projects where they can directly apply their skills. With our partnerships with tech firms, ladies can get the opportunity to work with them for internships, full-time and remote jobs.
Though there are some existing initiatives to get women into tech, one key aspect that is neglected is how the participants of such training programmes can apply the skills they learn. Our social enterprise not only equips the ladies with the skills; it also gives them the opportunity to earn while they learn. We have a dedicated support team that will continually be in touch with all our developers to give them the support they need.
With funding from your end, we will be able to set up a college and run coding classes right from scratch. This way, we will be providing innovative technological solutions to businesses in Africa and beyond, we are helping businesses to reach more customers, generate more revenue and create more jobs. When tech firms hire from us, there will be improved diversity and inclusion in workplaces and better products and services will be developed.
